Relaxation At It's Finest!

Thanks Dad & Mom!
Phoenix, AZ...5 days...4 nights...no kids...100 degree + weather...spa treatments...turn down service...pool...good food...time with my hubby! Needless to say The Wigwam Golf Resort and Spa were fantastic. My parents spoiled my hubby and I for our birthdays and sent us on a fabulous mini vacation. Thanks for the time away and great choice on location! Thanks for watching the girls and spoiling them while we were gone.

16th Birthday Part 2

Actually, this part of Nicole's birthday, we celebrated on May 3rd, 2008. She had a progressive dinner with 4 of her best friends.

We started in the Pearl District at Aunt Kelli's loft for appetizers.
Grandpa and Grandma had the main course! BBQ Hamburgers...of course!
And dessert of apple pie and lemon bars was at home!
Pictured are Osdale, Lindsay, Nicole, Alexa, and Nancy.

Then Nicole invited several friends for dessert, games and fun! Nicole decided to ask all of her friends to bring gifts for children instead of herself. We as her parents thought that this was an awesome idea. So, we had an Elmo theme and had a kids party. Even Pin the nose on Elmo!
These are all the toys that Nicole collected. We delivered them yesterday to Emmanuel's Children's Hospital. They were very touched. And we were very proud!

Thanks to all the girls that participated and made this event such a great gift to the children.

Watch Out for a Green Yukon!!!

It's official...Nicole has her Driver's License!
She passed with flying colors this morning and drove herself to school...and even volunteered to run to pick up her sister and go to the store! Amazing how helpful one is right after they get their driver's license!

PS>>>From a mother's perspective...this was a very emotional day. I thought the first day of preschool was hard (2 mornings a week for 2 hrs), then came every day kindergarten. I thought junior high was hard, then came high school with all those kids! I thought the school dance was difficult...or going out alone without parent supervision with friends was hard. But, I must say this tops the list for me. (at least so far!) I know most of my reader friends are at the beginning of this perspective list, but wow...my daughter can drive. I didn't know I was old enough...and I didn't like the responsibility the insurance agent reminded me way too vividly of...and I just don't know where the 16 years went. I know my daughter is in God's hands...but everyday gets a little scarier for this "old" mom!

Hard to Believe...16 years ago!

16 YEARS AGO TODAY...I was 2 weeks over due and being induced at Portland Adventist Hospital. The Trail Blazers were in the play offs and Dr. Sargent had the mirror positioned so he could watch the game when he was in the room, otherwise he was next door with my dad and other's watching the game! It was the day AFTER Mother's Day, and I had gone to church the day before only to be asked, "You're still here?" "You look like you are going to pop!" among various other THINGS good intentioned people ask you at that horrible state of your life. I entered the hospital at 8am that Monday morning and at 10:47pm had a beautiful baby girl...Nicole Marie! Thus the reason I told her it is only fair that her 16th birthday should end up on Mother's Day and she have to share it with me and her grandma's and aunt's! :-)

I believe that I must be one of the luckiest mom's alive to have been so fortunate to have two beautiful girls who are soooo different!

Nicole, you make your parent's so proud. You are a beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful, sensitive young woman. You make so many good choices in life. We love your love for kids and how they seem to flock to you. We love to see you around your friends and see how you laugh together, yet they look up to you for support and advice. We love how honest you are and how your love for Jesus shines thru you. We love how thoughtful you are of others. I love when you know what songs to sing or play to make your dad cry! And I love when you know that I am not okay and I just need a hug. You are an extraordinary young lady. We love you and are very proud of you. We wish you the best as you grow in Independence in the coming years and look forward to what all God has planned for you. Happy Birthday Sweetheart, We love you! xoxoxoxoxoxo

Nicole's 16th Birthday Celebration & Mother's Day!

Today was an awesome day celebrating with family. Nicole's grandparents and grandma were here along were her Aunt Kate and fiancee Jason, Aunt Kelli, Aunt Rhonda and cousin Mick and Rhonda's mom, Virginia, Uncle Gary and Aunt Sharon as well as her sister, Rob and I. After a great dinner together, we celebrated not only Nicole's birthday but Mother's Day as well. For Nicole's birthday, with the help of my dear friend Becky, I was able to make Nicole a quilt out of her old t-shirts. As you can see by the photos, Nicole was pleasantly surprised. She received many nice gifts, but especially enjoyed all the cash she received. Although, she didn't mind the Coach purse her parents bought her either!

I Have A Dream

Last week I had a fabulous dream, and when I told my family, they laughed at me (it also was on a morning that I overslept my alarm). I dreamt that I was on a cruise, and not just any cruise (Paul, you'll like this one!), it was a Hot Wheels convention cruise! I had just won a exclusive Hot Wheels car at a raffle, and was walking back to my room with my traveling buddy, Penn Gillette (of Penn & Teller fame). We walked past the buffet then a really good song came over the ship's speaker system, it was the O'Jays "For the love of money", Penn and I were walking and dancing down the corridors of the ship and I realized he was wearing a nice button up shirt, a suit coat, boxers, and black socks. . . just then the alarm sounded again and this time had the presence of mind to realize the O'Jays were playing on my clock radio and I was late for work! That's one for therapists to figure out! -blogged by Rob-
