For years my father has been helping me with my raspberries. I am sure this is the reason they are always so good and plentiful. Well, today I decided I had better tackle them alone. North of Coos Bay, on the Oregon Coast, 4 more days of beautiful weather. The Umpqua Lighthouse is one Nicole has wanted to see for years, for it is the only one on the North coast that has a red light. Lots more hiking and exploring, as well as sea shells and rocks. Probably our most favorite find was the Sunset Bay area in Coos Bay. We saw seals and sea lions, Cape Arago, and the beautiful Shore Acres Estate with its beautiful gardens right on the ocean. A must see for everyone. Fun, fun times!

Our first camping trip this summer we enjoyed a week at Cannon Beach RV Resort. It was a cool damp week, but despite the weather we had a lot of fun. Tons of bike riding...and to Haystack Rock at low tide on our bikes! Coffee, swimming, Tillamook Cheese Factory tour, biking and more Human Bean coffee rounded out this week of fun.

June took Rob and Debbie to San Diego, California for a week of sun and relaxing. We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary in style, at Roy's Restaurant. Just look at the beautiful dessert they brought us! It was a wonderful trip. You may ask why Rob is wearing the shirt that says "The Ultimate Man"? Rob wore a shirt just like this when I dated him back in HS. I got him a new one!

We surprised Amanda for her 16th Birthday with a trip to Disneyland. She got home from school and we gave her a little package, she opened it up and started dancing around...she was boarding a plane with her sister and Dad in 2 hours! Rob and the girls had a fabulous time celebrating at the "Happiest Place on Earth!" Ricky and I hung out at home and had some special mom and son time together. Amanda was thoroughly surprised and had an absolutely fabulous time. What great memories for Rob and the girls!

Finally...A NEW Stove!

Who would have known that when you own a home that is over 18 years old they would no longer make the same kind of stove to put in when the old one died. We have been babying our poor old stove along for years, but I was tired of having to bang the units with a frying pan to make them work. And who would have guessed that a stove would have to cost so much! We had a drop in range, and they no longer make those. So, we had to make the space work for a slide in. Thankfully my dad could do the wiring! (I forgot to get pictures of this :( ) And Rob cut and sanded cupboards, counters and flooring and cut some more to make the unit slide in finally. Now I even have a drawer for pots and pans!
It is so awesome to have a handy hubby and dad! I would be lost without them! Love you both!

June 14th, Nicole graduated as one of the Valedictorians from Reynolds! We were mighty proud! Here is Nicole with some of the special people in her life. I Learned Today

I learned today that sashes are just as good as cords! Let me give you a little history. You see there has been quite some controversy in our household about the stress one would bestow upon themselves to get a "rope" aka cord to wear around ones neck at graduation. One of our daughters sees this as an extreme importance...the other sees this as STUPID! Need I say more.

Yesterday morning we attended a honors recognition breakfast to honor seniors. Nicole received not only a silver cord for more than 250 community service hours but also a sash that says Valedictorian. It was after this that I then learned that sashes can be and are just as important as the cords! Stay tuned...we have plenty more discussions to come about these things.

The FINAL BAND Concert!

I seem to be the only one excited that this was the last band concert I hopefully ever have to attend! And I repeat...the only one! Everyone else was sad that there would be no more band concerts, state performances...etc. Although, we still have the Disneyland Heritage Band Festival this coming weekend and Starlight Rose Parade! The seniors got to wear their prom dresses...thus all the different colors. Nicole received her senior rose and her 4 year letter in band. We were proud parents! Goodbye HS Band...

Nicole's 18th Birthday

Birthday dinner at Red Robin with the family and Julia. Nicole received a very special heart necklace from us that had 2 of the diamonds Debbie had received from her grandmother in it. We had wrote a letter telling her how much she is loved, how proud we are of her and how we know she can accomplish anything she puts her mind too! A very special night.

Nicole had several friends join us for an awesome night of bowling, cake & ice cream. We had a great time at Rose Bowl bowling several games together. It was a hoot!

18 Years Ago Today...

we became parents for the first time! We were so excited. We were married in 1987, but waited to have kids. We wanted to own a home, be established in our work place, travel and have some fun. I always wanted a girl...at least one. We didn't find out what we were having, we waited the entire 9 months + 2 weeks to find out. Monday, May 11, 1992 at 10:47pm following the Trailblazers Playoff game with the Pheonix Suns, Nicole Marie was born.

8 lbs 13 1/2 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.

Hard to believe...but Ricky turned 10 today!

What a busy week and weekend we have had of baseball and birthday celebrations! Last Sunday, Ricky celebrated his birthday at the zoo with his birth family. This weekend was a baseball tournament and tomorrow is our 5th game in a row...we are exhausted! Between games we have had a few celebrations. Last Saturday Rob's family helped Ricky celebrate the beginning of the birthday week at LaCostita...his favorite restaurant. We had a family dinner on Friday night and yesterday he had several friends over. We had a Mexican themed party with Mexican candies and nuts...I even made a sombrero cake and we had a lot of fun with the pinata! Today Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Kelli, and the Eric Moffat family joined us for pizza at Abby's. We had cake too! Sam & Maggie even helped Ricky put together one of his new Lego's. In the one photo you will notice Ricky is sporting his new Paul Frank pj's and a sombrero! (This photo is for you Leah!)

Easter 2010!

One of the only holidays that we spend as a family, just the 5 of us! We had a fabulous day. Church together in the morning, followed by a wonderful dinner of steak, ribs & pork chops on the BBQ, steamed asparagus, leftsa (a German dish similar to tortillas, but made out of mashed potatoes, and home made fresh pineapple upside down cake! Yummy! We did some Easter egg dying too! And of course, everyone got a basket of goodies. It was a wonderful day together. He is Risen Indeed!

Fresh pineapple, "Cool Cats Diner", "Burgers in Paradise", Sun, Sand, Snorkeling, Whale Watching Excursion, Swimming, laying in the sun, shopping, lei making & hula dancing classes, fresh farmers markets, pearls...all this plus much more equals so much fun. I was extremely lucky to be able to take my two daughters away for 6 days to Maui. We had a fabulous time together. Laughing, talking, "bonding"! It was an absolutely priceless moment I will never forget!

Amanda Turns 15!

My baby girl turned 15 on March 15th! There was a lot of 15 things... We had several celebrations. We had dinner with Grandma & Grandpa & Aunt Kelli, Uncle Gary & Aunt Sharon and Amy came. We had the usual embarrassment at Red Robin as a family. We also had dinner with Rob's family at his sister's house. Amanda got a lap top from Grandma & Grandpa...you should have seen the excitement there! Of course we had to show off our fabulous toes in our new Nike sandals.

Probably Amanda's happiest moment was when she got her permit! On her FIRST (1st) try! She had to rub that into her sister a little!

We love you Fritze and are so proud of you. You are beautiful on the inside and the outside!

Vegas Baby!

A lot has happened since my last post...so there will be much to come! The first thing was Rob & I celebrated my birthday in Vegas! Rob met Elvis, I "saw" Donny & Marie, the lions at the MGM were beautiful, The Bellagio was breath taking, The Venetian was gorgeous, wonderful food...and some great shows! We had a marvelous time. Thanks to Nicole for being the "mother" while we were gone. <3

The Other thing that has kept us so busy...Ricky!

Many of you have been asking about Ricky also, Here is what we know for sure.
Ricky's birth mom received her rights back in late November.
Therefore he is no longer able to be adopted.
Ricky's mom is having some testing done in the coming months, as well as Ricky. The court will meet again at the end of April to decide where Ricky should live.
The good news thus far is that Ricky is with us until the end of April. The judge did not allow any additional visitation or anything until we have some sort of a plan.
So, now we wait until at least the end of April to see what the next step of the plan is.
Meanwhile, we are signed up for after school basketball and science club and he has tryouts for baseball in a couple of weeks.

What has been keeping us sooooo busy????

As many of you know, my mom had a stroke on our trip home from Disney. In actuality, she probably suffered one while we were at Disneyland, but we didn't know. She spent a week at Mt Hood Hospital, and then almost a month at Good Samaritan at the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon. While at RIO she received intense therapy.
She came home at the first of 2010 and has been re cooperating at home. My dad has been her primary care giver, and he has us to help him as well as home health.
Now that she is able to move both legs they are hoping to transport her to out - patient therapy very soon.
Our hope is that mom will recover totally and be able to return to her normal lifestyle. Only time will tell. We are really proud of her and the hard work she has put in thus far.

Ricky's One Year Anniversary!

September 9, 2009. Also known as "Gotcha Day" to kids like Ricky who have been in foster care and are looking forward to being adopted into a forever family. Ricky had been talking about this day for months!!! He planned with Grandma what should happen months ago. They decided that we would go to LaCostita for dinner as a family and he could invite someone to come. He chose his tutor and her husband to come. We had a great dinner and Ricky received a couple of small gifts. A movie and some things to add to his marble run. (As you can see...I for got to take any photos...I had the camera and forgot to use it.!)

One thing we have learned about Ricky over the year he has lived with us is that he is color blind...or at least as Rob puts it he needs to be put on the show "What Not to Wear!" Here is how Ricky has come out dressed in the last couple of days. Once to go to a wedding...and the other time to go to school. Needless to say, we haven't let him go out quite this bad, although sometimes he doesn't match!

Hard to believe, but my baby girl is a FRESHMAN! Her first day was September 8th. She was glad it was freshman only...since there is over 900 in her class! Nicole is a SENIOR! Everyone went to school on Wednesday the 9th. Ricky had a first with this being his first year in the same school for 2 years. He is starting 4th grade. Everyone was a little sad to see summer come to an end!

Summer Reading Success!

We successfully completed our summer reading program! Nicole, Amanda, & Ricky all completed the Multnomah County Summer Reading Program 2009 and even did the bonus round! All of them received a T-shirt and got their name in a book at the Fairview Library. Congratulations kiddos! And thanks to Nicole and Amanda for helping be really "enthusiastic" about this!

No photos...forgot my camera! But, Nicole is flying over the Atlantic as I post this. She left this morning from PDX and arrived in Minneapolis at 3:30pm our time. She then left for London at 8:45pm our time.

Seaside Oregon!

Last Thursday thru this past Tuesday we were at Seaside. My boss, Roger, owns a condo there, and let us use it for the week. We had beautiful weather and lots of fun. We ran into some old friends and enjoyed an evening at their pool. (Sorry Stacy, Tustin and kids...we obviously got so busy talking we forgot to take any photos!) ;-(

My folks came down for a couple of days and stayed in another condo across from us, so we could have some family time. We had a great time shopping, playing at the arcade, walking the strip, riding the merry go round, swimming in their pool and of course riding the bumper cars!

Nicole's favorite photo is the one where she looks taller than Amanda on the beach! Rob's favorite time was the Muscle Car Show! We gave up on him and went to Cannon Beach for the afternoon. He was drooling too much for the rest of us! (He wants all of you to know that the bottom 2 photos are his dream garage!) Before grandma and grandpa came we enjoyed Fultano's at Cannon Beach, Bagels by the Sea at Seaside and much relaxing time. Thanks again Roger!

Rob's "paternity time" is up...his 3 weeks are over...so tomorrow it is back to work and making some money for this family! (Note: Debbie is a little jealous...she has been working all her hours around these trips!)

Amanda - Basketball!

Amanda made the summer league basketball team for freshman at school. She has been playing post, and is doing a great job! She has been diagnosed with a disease in her knee after months of therapy (notice the brace), but has still managed to play a good game. She is hoping that she will make the team come fall/winter! Ricky had a great time playing baseball. He was a rookie...but learned fast. He liked to play center field, but the coach really liked him as catcher, and at his very last game, he was the pitcher. He did awesome. He can't wait to play next year.

The Past Month...Busy...Busy!

So, obviously by the title of the post...we have been a little too busy to post to the blog. But I couldn't not let you know about some of the great things that have been going on.

1. Reynolds High School took 1st of all bands in the Starlight Parade. It was a fabulous warm evening in Oregon, and we went to route them on.

Yeah Nicole! March left, right, left, right...smile...play flute...march....

2. Amanda played in her last band concert. She has decided to retire from the percussion section, even though she rocks. She has decided she wants to pursue other interests. We are not sure what the band is going to do without her organization skills of keeping those boys in line!

3. Nicole not only still has first chair in her band, she also had a solo and did an outstanding job.

Tennessee!
First I must preface this post by admitting that I am a city girl through and through! And I don't mind admitting this!

Do you see a Statue of Billy Graham not far from the "entertainment" part of downtown!
"Parking Area" signs on the freeway that are just that...an area to park. Might I add, no restroom or facilities of any kind...only a parking area?

Piggly Wiggly grocery stores! Might I add this was one of two stores we passed in 250 miles! We had to stop...it was hilarious!

Directions are given not by street names, but rather by landmarks. "Go two miles down the road, just past the mile marker you will see a broken down mail box, turn right there!" NO JOKE! (Note: this is quite difficult when you don't live there and every mailbox you drive by looks like this one and 2 miles down the road may mean 1 mile, 1 1/2 miles, etc!)

And lots of people have signs like this one in there front yard?!

All I can say is...only in Tennessee!

PS...Other highlights that I didn't manage to get photos of included...but weren't limited to...

Walking into our guest home to an old dude sound asleep on the sofa and NACAR buzzing on the TV. We weren't sure if he was dead or alive.

Whirlwind Trip...

Ten Mile, Tennessee...

Rob's good friend, Jack, got married in TN. We left Saturday morning at 6am and returned Monday night at midnight. We flew into Nashville, rented a car, and drove 250 miles. Went to the rehearsal dinner, attended the wedding and beautiful dinner and reception at WhiteStone. Monday morning we got up early and drove 250 miles back to Nashville. Visited the Old Opry Hotel, downtown Nashville and ate a delicious meal at the Cheesecake Factory, returned our rental and boarded a plane arriving home at midnight on Monday night. Then we both got up and went to work in the morning on Tuesday. Needless to say...thus the title of the post...whirlwind trip. Rob was so glad he didn't miss Jack's wedding!

It is hard to believe that the little boy we first met only 8 short months ago has become such a part of our forever family! This is Ricky's first ever birthday party...and he is having two of them! He is sooo excited.

Easter 2009

We had a great Easter. The Easter bunny did show up here. We had a great church service and dinner with Debbie's folks. Followed by a great egg hunt for all the kiddos and even remembered to pose for a few photos. Us adults even got in a nap while the kiddos played the Wii! And as if all that wasn't enough, Grandma made fresh strawberry pie for dessert! Yummy!

Sunday, April 5th at the park...the kids begged grandpa and grandma to join us for a McDonalds picnic lunch! It was a beautiful but quite brisk day!

Brave Ricky!

As many of you know...Ricky was born tongue tied. We have been discussing with him that it would be very beneficial to him to get it clipped. He has been very scared and anxious about this. After much advice regarding whether or not to do this procedure, everyone from his pediatrician to his teacher to his speech therapists have said this would be extremely helpful to his speech impediment.

Friday we had an appointment with the specialist to discuss the procedure. He looked at Ricky and said, lets do it today! So, right there, that moment, and in a matter of minutes...Ricky got his tongue clipped. He was very brave!

We celebrated with ice cream for lunch and a special dinner out. The specialist said that he will have to re-learn how to speak and do exercises to get muscles in his tongue. He is very proud because he too is just like his friend Miles.

Amanda's Birthday party

On Saturday we celebrated Amanda's birthday. The 4 of us, Aunt Kelli, Uncle Gary and Aunt Sharon, Grandma and Grandpa, and Amanda's friend Amy all helped celebrate.

This year was Amanda's first year blowing out all of her birthday candles in one breath. Usually it takes her many to even get out one but this year she did it. (We will not mention that she didn't really blow, it was more of a laugh with a big sigh that blew them all out!) We still love you!

Amanda's theme was Butterflies and mom made a beautiful cake for her :)

Amy watched as Amanda opened all of her gifts. And as you can see in the picture Amanda was very excited to get a Wii. She never thought she would really get one but I guess that good birthday candle blow-out helped :)

Grandma and Grandpa stayed over and we got them playing the Wii. Even grandma played in her walker. Grandpa and I played bowling for the first time together and I tell you...don't play against him. He beat me by a lot on his first try! If you think you are good at Wii bowling try playing against Grandpa!

Amanda's birthday breakfast. She had a candle in her eggs, cinnamon roll and coffee. And she didn't let us down this birthday when she couldn't blow out these candles.

Friday, March 6th, Rob's sister Kate and our new brother in law Jason got married after 3 plus years of dating. Here are just a few photos we were able to capture that night. The girls were junior bridesmaids, Rob walked his sister down the isle since their father is deceased and Ricky helped take the gifts. We were all quite attractive, don't you think! :-)

District Solo Contest!

Incase you do not know...Ricky's favorite animal is an elephant. We have been deciding since September...what should Ricky's first room look like? And this is what Ricky and Rob came up with. Ricky even helped paint! He even got grandpa in on the painting. (I don't have any photos of them painting, all of us girls left for some girl time with grandma, and the boys didn't take any photos!)

There is one large elephant and one baby elephant...and a whole lot of other elephants. Ricky LOVES his room now!

For my birthday instead of cake this year...my hubby made me my favorite, creme brulee! It was delicious. My parents, with the help of Amanda also made my favorite meal which included Flank Steak! It was also absolutely delicious!

Rob and I enjoyed one night away last week for my birthday. The kids stayed with my folks and Rob and I escaped for two full days and one night to Seattle. We enjoyed beautiful weather, good food and fun times together. Ricky even found out that forever mom and dad's do come home!

A Belated Post

On Saturday, February 21st it was Mom's birthday. So this is a belated Birthday post to tell mom how much we love her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!

We love you and appreciate every thing you do for us. I know for a fact that without you we would not be the same. I have recently realized how much you do for us as a family and I did not know how hard it was.

On Friday we went to Red Robin for dinner and they sang to mom. She had to put ballons around her ears and stand up. It was very entertaining.

Saturday we hung out around the house and went to the Lind's house for dinner. Grandma and Grandpa prepared a lovely dinner with the help of Amanda. We had flank steak, asparagus, zucchini, rolls and potatoes. For dessert we had Creme Brulee. We had a relaxing and good night.

The Harding's slept in, did a few chores, and went thru the sock drawers. Have you ever gone to your drawer to find someone else's socks? Well we have many problems with socks at our house and decided to put that to an end. We unloaded all the sock drawers and put initials inside each sock. It gets way to confusing with 5 people now. So after some unloading, rematching, finding the right owner, and initialing, all the socks are in the right drawer with initials. We shall hopefully have no more sock issues. (HOPEFULLY!)

Piles and piles of snow changed the location of dinner to Dad and Mom's. No one could get into our neighborhood, and it was safer if grandma stayed put. We had a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings and delicious homemade cakes that grandma made for dessert. Alan & Lisa and girls stopped by for dessert. Ricky enjoyed meeting his cousins. And Kelli, the fairy godmother, came thru with gifts despite the weather and lack of deliveries!
